By: Michael Russell

Article Word Count: 358

Garbage Collecting Jobs are great for people who enjoy doing practical work and are even better for those of us who love working outdoors. Garbage collecting jobs are available everywhere and there are many duties within the garbage collecting industry that can appeal to almost anyone. If you are physically fit, love to be outdoors and if you prefer to operate heavy machinery a career in garbage collection could be for you. Even if you prefer to working indoors, there are many management opportunities available.

The basic garbage collection job requires one to collect refuse, either traditional garbage or sometimes even recyclables. Most garbage collecting jobs require you to follow a set designated route each day to pick up garbage from curbsides. Other garbage collecting jobs ask that you drive a garbage truck to dumpsters and use the mechanical devices like fork lifts to raise the dumpsters over the trucks to empty them. Garbage collecting jobs are usually performed early in the morning or mid afternoon, but there are night positions available.

Garbage collector jobs usually ask that you perform tasks such as riding on the back of garbage trucks operating forklifts, driving garbage trucks or machinery and that you are able to lift heavy objects all day long. All of these duties do require some training, and with the right training and job experience, there are supervisory jobs available in the garbage collecting industry. Getting a job in the industry is the first step, but the options and promotion opportunities are endless.

Garbage collecting jobs are perfect if you like to leave your job at work. Garbage collecting jobs tend to end when the final load has been dropped and the truck is parked. It is practical work and one great benefit is that it usually pays very well. Garbage collectors can either work for a company or work independently, contracting jobs through larger garbage collection companies. Either way, if you are an outdoor loving person who doesnt want your job to follow you home, garbage collection jobs are perfect for you.
